Down A Gravel Road
Finding Curry Road

Welcome to the Adventures of Living On Curry Road

Rye, Arkansas is located eleven miles north of Warren, AR, fifteen miles west of Monticello, AR and approximately thirty miles south of Pine Bluff, AR. Rye has been the home of the Curry family for over five generations. This family has farmed this land producing cattle, chickens, timber. The area is beautiful and the family culture is equally impressive with its generations of family that continue to live by the standards that made America a great country.

Rye, AR and the Curry family are a story of strong American values and the building of personal character, the love of God and a lot of very hard dedicated work. Donald Curry and Kay Curry are the current owners of most of the original farm land originally developed by the generations of Curry family. Kay Curry is the daughter of Jimmy and Hazel Baker and married Donald over fifty years ago. Both have continued the legacy of the farm life on Curry Road. Donald and Kay have raised a family of two daughters and one son. Mark Curry currently operates a cattle operation as well as four chicken houses on his part of the property. Lisa Tooke, wife of Dennis Tooke of Lake Charles, La and Donna Curry, of Little Rock, AR plan to retire back to the farm land when thier retirement time comes.

Jane and I were asked to help in a restoration of the 104 year old house shown above. We are so blessed to be allowed to have input as well as provide a labor of love to help restore this house to its original beauty for Donald and Kay Curry

As Jane and I came into the property with our RV, we came down the gravel road leading to Curry Road. We came down this gravel road and had to stop and take a picture. We are including that picture with this overview so you too can see the beauty of this area.

It reminded us of the book “The Painted House” by John Grisham and we hope you will get the same response.

Curry Road Family Memories and Stories Of Old Page

We have finally found some resources for facts about the Curry Family and the development of the WG and Erma Curry country house.  (Thats the one we are blessed to be helping restore)

This will be a special page for anyone that wants to share some old memories or stories about growing up on Curry Road and especially around the WG Curry homestead.

Robert Donald and Kay Curry have been able to create the restoration and Jane and I have been blessed to do the work.  For several months Jane and I have been labeled "those people" by most of the Curry, Cope and other clans.  Now we have met more Curry people and I think we are part of the group.  So, you be part of the program and feel free to send us some stories, pictures, drawings or anything that you think others may want to share in remembering this old house.

The following is an example of what we're hoping for, its from David Cope and really appreciate his input.

Keep'em coming

It was fun coming by and seeing what “those people” have being doing to the old house. Now that we know who “those people” are, we welcome Carl and Jane into the Curry Clan. I hope I can remember a lot of the stories and times we experienced there.
I was born in 1948 and am the youngest of the four Cope kids. We moved from the little house down the road into Warren when I was five so Dad could be closer to the lumber mill where he worked. We referred to the home place as “over home” or “ over in the country” when we talked about visiting. Jerrilyn and I would visit Uncle G and Aunt Erma several times each summer and stay about a week each time we came. We would switch back and forth between Uncle G’s house and Uncle Coke’s house during the stays. I can still remember the little green hardboard suitcase we used to carry our clothes in. Mom and Dad would regularly drive “over in the country” for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon visit.
Emmett Green Curry was my grandfather and we referred to him as Papa Curry and our grandmother (Winnie) as Mama Curry. They both died before I was born and I never had the honor of meeting either. There were five sons, (Faye, Coke, W.G., Ralph, and Arthur) and one daughter ( Floy,my mother) in the family. Since Mom was the only daughter in the family, she was always called “Sister” and I can’t remember any of the Curry Clan ever calling Mom by her real name. Robert Donald is actually our third cousin and I believe his grandfather and Papa Curry were brothers. On some of our visits I would occasionally get to “hang out” with Robert Donald’s younger brother Johnny even though he was a grown man.
Well, the sun is up over the trees and I hear the garden calling, so I’ll close for now. Thank you so much for what you’re doing for our old home place.
David Cope

Thanks David, and thanks to Donald and Kay Curry for financing the project and its restoration.   We're just blessed to do the work.

David is between his two sisters in the following picture.
