Down A Gravel Road
Finding Curry Road

Welcome to the Adventures of Living On Curry Road

Rye, Arkansas is located eleven miles north of Warren, AR, fifteen miles west of Monticello, AR and approximately thirty miles south of Pine Bluff, AR. Rye has been the home of the Curry family for over five generations. This family has farmed this land producing cattle, chickens, timber. The area is beautiful and the family culture is equally impressive with its generations of family that continue to live by the standards that made America a great country.

Rye, AR and the Curry family are a story of strong American values and the building of personal character, the love of God and a lot of very hard dedicated work. Donald Curry and Kay Curry are the current owners of most of the original farm land originally developed by the generations of Curry family. Kay Curry is the daughter of Jimmy and Hazel Baker and married Donald over fifty years ago. Both have continued the legacy of the farm life on Curry Road. Donald and Kay have raised a family of two daughters and one son. Mark Curry currently operates a cattle operation as well as four chicken houses on his part of the property. Lisa Tooke, wife of Dennis Tooke of Lake Charles, La and Donna Curry, of Little Rock, AR plan to retire back to the farm land when thier retirement time comes.

Jane and I were asked to help in a restoration of the 104 year old house shown above. We are so blessed to be allowed to have input as well as provide a labor of love to help restore this house to its original beauty for Donald and Kay Curry

As Jane and I came into the property with our RV, we came down the gravel road leading to Curry Road. We came down this gravel road and had to stop and take a picture. We are including that picture with this overview so you too can see the beauty of this area.

It reminded us of the book “The Painted House” by John Grisham and we hope you will get the same response.

Getting There, Inch by Inch

Well, we continue to work towards our Thanksgiving deadline and we're gaining on it.
The weather has been "hotter than a $2 pistol" and thats pretty hot but we have gotten through it so far.  It is such a blessing to get to work this hard and see the benefits.  (No really, it is , it is, ,,,, I'm not kidding)

We finally got the old TV cabinet restored and usable.  We got this one from a Re-Store of Habitat For Humanity.   It was in pretty bad shape and very expensive, $20, but we worked on it and it turned out pretty good.   It has built in speakers and shelves and all the goodies, plus it goes well with our TV.
The front panels are cloth covered.

The position is not final but the TV and the stand make a great combination for either the LR or the Sun Room.

We also have worked hard on the LR.  We've gotten some of the wood work painted and are preparing for the walls.  They will be a medium blue/violet color.  There's actually a real name for the color but I don't know it or can't spell it if I had it.   We've painted the windows and the double doors into the DR and we really trying to figure out what to do with the ceiling.  The ceiling is wall board directly applied to a "lap board" wooden ceiling.  It is about 30 years old and very fragile with a lot of sagging.  We will have to repair the damage before we can paint and move on but, we're getting there.

The couch and foot stool were a gift from Margie and we are very thankful to have them.  The small lamp table on the left was actually my mom's sewing table and has all the old thread spool racks and little put out and around drawers for needles and such.  The legs are hand made and are some kind of "feet".   One of the things that really gives us a good memory of someone very special.  The lamps were from the Re-Store with some handy work and clean up.

We have also completely re-done (if thats a word) the Front BR.  The paint is country white, which is actually a lot more yellow than white, but it looks great.  The wood work is bright white and the blinds are a faux wood 2 inch blind.  ( Do I sound a little too much "interior designer"?).  {I gotta get me some chewing tobacco and go work in the fields quick!!!!!}  We also have almost completed the laminate flooring and boy (!) does it wook great! (now I sound like Elmer Flood).

Lots of knee work and hard on the hands but really easy to put down once you get the plywood flooring in place and fairly level.  We are impressed with the way there is very little waste in the sections and how it all fits together.  We're just hoping that it doesn't "pop" up during the night until we can get the quarter round back down.

Looks pretty good doesn't it?   We're tired but very happy.  Did we mention the paint was from Donna Curry and the blinds were from Lowes?

Thanks Donna, not much thanks to Lowes, they were rude.  Oh Well...

Well, thats all folks (now I sound like Donald Duck),,,,,,,for now anyway.

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn,,,,,,,, I just had to throw that one in, you knew it was coming didn't you.
